Contemporary Dance Theater celebrates it 35th Anniversary of presenting and promoting dance in the Tri-State! As in seasons past, the 2007-08 Guest Artist Series presents a diverse and enjoyable mix of contemporary dance styles, from the world renowned Pilobolus to Koresh Dance Company's first appearance in Cincinnati. And as is fitting for such a milestone year, CDT concludes the season of with a two concert festival showcasing the work of local choreographers and dancers.

Dayton Contemporary Dance Company November 16 & 17, 8:30 pm

One of the great success stories in American modern dance, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) is renowned for its virtuoso dancing, vibrant imagery and complex choreography. Primarily an African American company, DCDC holds the largest collection in the world of works by black choreographers and continually enriches its repertoire with exciting new work. Wideman/Davis Dance, "Bends of Life" January 25 & 26, 8:30 pm

Wideman/Davis Dance combines the talents of two stars of the dance world: Thaddeus Davis and Tanya Wideman-Davis. The company will present "Bends of Life," a short trip through American history as reflected in the Southern black community of Gees Bend, Alabama. Set to sacred and folk music, the piece follows two characters from slavery to sharecropping, receiving the right to vote, and the creation of functional quilts being sold as art. The internationally renowned Pilobolus Dance Theatre revolutionized American modern dance by incorporating elements of acrobatics, gymnastics and an intense physical interaction between the performers. Celebrated for their powerful stage presence and high-energy style, Philadelphia's Koresh Dance Company has been hailed as an extraordinary and vital force in the national dance scene. For its 35th Anniversary Season, Contemporary Dance Theater expands its popular Choreographers without Companies to a veritable festival of modern dance in the Tri-State. Two distinct concerts will feature new dances alongside reprises of older ones, work by choreographers who have companies as well as those who don't. The program for June 6 & 7 will include choreographers: Paige Cunningham, Jeri Gatch, Tricia Gelmini, Judith Mikita, Fanchon Shur & Karen Wissel, and Jan Van Dyke The program for June 13 & 14 will include choreographers: Jacqueline Garcia, Diane Germaine, Whitney Jacobs & Matt Woodring, Ka-Ron Brown Lehman, Jeanne Mam-Luft, Susan Moser, and Shawn Womack
