Kids Dance Classes Summer 2013 Registration Information

When are registrations due?

Registrations are due 2 days before the first class of each session.

  • If minimum registrations are not met by the deadline, classes will be cancelled.
  • If you miss a deadline, contact us [info below] in case we are still accepting students.
What does it cost?

$36 cash/check or $39 credit card per each 4-week session.

NO REFUNDS for missed classes.
No pro-rated prices for beginning after first class of session.

Kids Dance Schedule for Summer 2013: June 3 – August 31, 2013

TUESDAYS

 Breakdance with Brent Fields (Studio C) 

Session 1: June 4, 11, 18, 25: BEGINNERS

This session is for new students and those who want to review breakdance basics of Breaking/B-Boying/B-Girling. Brent Fields will lead these classes in exploring freestyling, starting with fundamentals and progressing through toprocks, drops, footwork, power moves, and freezes. Students will alsolearn how to dance with individual character and creativity.

Session II: July 9, 16, 23, 20: INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED

This session is for experienced students and breakdancers. Students will explore more advanced moves, building on the basics learned in the beginner class.

(No Breakdance during Session III)

Ages 6-10 (1st-5th grades) 6:15-7:05pm Breakdancing for Kids
Ages 11+ (Middle & High School) 7:10-8:05pm Breakdancing for Teens
 
WEDNESDAYS

 Introduction to Dance with Allison Jacobs (Studio B)

This class will introduce your child to the fundamentals of Ballet and Modern. Emphasis will be on developing proper technique, improving strength and flexibility, and increasing dance vocabulary and terms. Students will have an opportunity to utilize their imagination and creativity through various dance games and activities. No previous experience is necessary. Tights, leotards and ballet slippers are encouraged, but not required.

THURSDAYS

Shake and Create with Allison Jacobs (Studio B)

In this class, your child will be introduced to creative movement and dance. Your child will have an opportunity to jump, shake, spin and wiggle, while using their imagination!

SATURDAYS
Hip Hop for Kids

In this class, your child or teen will learn the basics of Hip Hop and Street Jazz. After warming up, students will learn improvisation and freestyle techniques, followed by a short choreographed routine to popular age-appropriate music. Placement, muscle memory, rhythm, and musicality will be emphasized.

Teachers’ Biographies

Introduction to Dance and Shake and Create — ALLISON JACOBS has been dancing and teaching in greater Cincinnati and New York City for the past twenty years. Her dance training is primarily focused on Ballet and Modern. However, Allison is also well versed in Tap, Jazz, Hip-hop, Musical Theater, Swing, and Contact Improvisation. Allison has worked with Tanze Performing Arts Studio, Hamilton Ballet Theater, Miami Valley Ballet Theater, Long Island University, Contemporary Dance Theater, Ballet Tech, and Fresh Air Fund. Most recently, Allison has taught dance for Contemporary Dance Theater, Cincinnati Waldorf School, Cincinnati Public Schools, MamLuft&Co. Dance, as well as for the University of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Public Libraries. As a lover of all dance and all art forms, Allison is also a proud member of the Greater Cincinnati Dance Alliance, a group who engages the community in dance. In addition to teaching dance, Allison is a recent graduate of Northern Kentucky University with a degree in Psychology and a minors in dance, honors, sociology, and art history. For Breakdancing — BRENT FIELDS holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Morehead State University and is an American College of Sports Medicine Certified Fitness Specialist and Personal Trainer. He has worked with Jaron Joiner, danced in an opening performance for Lupe Fiasco, City Nights (Northern Kentucky), Fountain Square Slam Concert Series (Cincinnati), community events as a Breaker/B-Boy/Hip-Hop dancer, and has professional audition experience (Cirque Du Soleil and Paula Abdul’s Dance Show). Brent also teaches Breakdancing for Adults and Mature Teens.


Contemporary Dance Theater is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
