Contemporary Dance Theater :: Choreographers Without Companies Application Process

Each Spring Contemporary Dance Theater has produced a Choreographers Without Companies Concert, for our 35th Anniversary Season we presented a Choreographers Festival - 4 performances of two different programs. Now in our 36th season we're returning to the concept of presenting choreographers working free lance or without companies.

There are some changes to the format for this year. choreographers who are part of a company may apply (if they do not regularly choreograph for that company and they use some non-company members), choreographers may apply to present a new work or a reconstruction of a work. Priority consideration will be given to Greater Cincinnati area artists and artists who are serious and committed to choreographing for area dancers.

Required application information is as follows:

Applicant info -- name, address, all contact info
(including electronic)
Description of the work
if in process, tell us what you intend to do -- there will be opportunities to update the material if accepted
if this is a re-creation or reconstruction tell us about the original (with performance dates and location), why you want to revive it, and if possible submit a video or dvd of the work
Technical expectations and/or requirements
Running time (the committee is generally looking for work
that is 15 minutes or less)
Rehearsal challenges/needs
Size of cast
Potential cast members (the use of professional level
performers is encouraged)
A bio of the choreographer
A DVD or video of recent work preferably representative of the application

There are certain restrictions for presentation in this concert.
Those restrictions include:

companies -- but choreographers who are members of companies are welcome to submit applications for work which is not seen regularly on those companies.
faculty members who have regular access to production opportunities for this work
students creating work as a requirement for a degree
or college credit
