All of our adult/teen classes are now pre-registration required classes.  Drop-in students will only be allowed if a minimum number of pre-registrations are met.  AFTER THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE, the schedule above will be updated with which classes are running for the session. 
Try-out a class for the discounted price of $10 on Jan 6-10 before registering for Winter Quarter!  See the try-it-out class schedule HERE! (coming soon!)  

REGISTRATION deadline is the Friday before the session begins, but please register early.  The day after the registration deadline, we will decide which classes are running, and if running, you can still register for the session with a $10 late fee.  OR if a class is running, students may purchase a Flex-5 card ($60 cash or check, $63 credit card) or pay per class at a drop-in rate of $14 cash/check, $15 credit card.  This webpage and CDT’s Facebook Page will be updated one day after each session’s deadline with classes which are running for each session, and which classes will allow drop-in students.

You may register by downloading the registration form here and send it or bring it to the studio by the registration deadline with your payment. Or you can pay by credit card online (below) and then email, mail, or bring the registration form to the studio.  The studio is usually only open during class times, or by appointment.

If minimum 10-week session registrations are met and class runs (determined after the deadline), then drop-ins will be allowed at:
$14 cash/check or $15 credit card or use a
5 class Flex Card: $60 cash/check OR $63 credit card

All class payments & registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable
(only one person may use Flex-card or registration).
Flex Cards expire 3 months from date of issue.
Flex cards may be used for any adult/teen class which is running, determined after the registration deadline; not valid for Guest Artist Masterclasses.

IMPORTANT: If minimum registration is not met by deadline, class will be cancelled.  Refunds will be given if a class is cancelled, or students may transfer the payment to another class, the following session, or to Flex-cards.
Contact us immediately if you miss a deadline as space may still be available – late fees will apply. Payment is due with registration.  Registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable (may not be shared) and may be used only for the class and quarter registered.

Payments with cash/check/credit card can be made at the studio during class times, and credit cards can be accepted online or over the phone (513) 591-1222 — if not answered please leave a message to be returned.  No refunds for missed classes by students, but students in Fall Quarter may take up to 2 make-up classes in another class taught by the SAME instructor OR 1 make-up class taught by another instructor  – these make-up classes must be taken within the session.  Make-up classes for CDT cancelled classes in which no sub is available (cancelled due to instructor illness, vacation, etc.) or due to dangerous weather, will take place the week directly after the session ends.

Interested in private lessons or choreographed routines just for you? 
Many of our faculty offer private lessons, and each set their own rates.  If you are interested in private lessons or choreography in dance styles such as Latin partner dance (Salsa and more), wedding couple or party dance, general ballroom, musical theater, belly dance, tap, modern dance, ballet, or other styles, then please inquire at dance@cdt-dance.org. 
Private lessons or choreography will likely range from $40-$80/hr, depending on what is specifically requested.

Can’t afford to take as many classes as you would like?

What is each class about? Who is the teacher?

BALLET BASICS: STRETCH & STRENGTHEN, 1 & 2 w/ Allison Jacobs — Have you always wanted to learn Ballet? Well this is the class for you. In this class you will be introduced to the basics of Ballet including barre work, jumps, turns, leaps, and small combinations. Special emphasis will be placed on strengthening the muscles used in ballet & increasing overall flexibility! Basic Ballet vocabulary will also be taught.  This class is ideal for beginner ballet dancers as well as dancers who want a slower paced ballet class with more explanation on technique, and want to be able to ask questions, while getting a great stretching and strengthening workout.  Recommended to wear:  dance clothes (such as tights & leotard) or exercise/yoga clothes (there is no specific dress code).  If you plan to take ballet for a-while, please purchase ballet slippers for this class.  Otherwise, you can take this class in other soft dance shoes (such as jazz shoes) and possibly socks or bare feet.

ALLISON JACOBS has been dancing and teaching in greater Cincinnati and New York City for the past twenty years. Her dance training is primarily focused on Ballet and Modern. However, Allison is also well versed in Tap, Jazz, Hip-hop, Musical Theater, Swing, and Contact Improvisation. Allison has worked with Tanze Performing Arts Studio, Hamilton Ballet Theater, Miami Valley Ballet Theater, Long Island University, Contemporary Dance Theater, Ballet Tech, and Fresh Air Fund. Most recently, Allison has taught dance for Contemporary Dance Theater, Cincinnati Waldorf School, Cincinnati Public Schools, MamLuft&Co. Dance, as well as for the University of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Public Libraries. As a lover of all dance and all art forms, Allison is also a proud member of the Greater Cincinnati Dance Alliance, a group who engages the community in dance. In addition to teaching dance, Allison is a graduate of Kent State University with a Masters in Library Science, as well as Northern Kentucky University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minors in dance, honors, sociology, and art history. BALLET BASICS 3, w/ Alissa Stachowski, is for the advanced beginner who is moving into the intermediate level, or for those who want an advanced beginner/intermediate ballet level class.  It is for students who are familiar with the basic ballet class and technique, and would like a class to master these basics as well as learn and practice more challenging steps and combinations.  A much quicker paced class than Ballet Basics 1 & 2, Ballet Basics 3 students will get a great ballet workout, as well as get instruction on steps they have not yet mastered, and corrections on form.  This is a great class for those who do other dance styles such as Modern or Musical Theater Dance, and would like a weekly ballet class to work on their dance technique.  Recommended to wear:  any dance/exercise/yoga clothes and ballet slippers or other dance shoes.

ALISSA STACHOWSKI holds a BA degree in Dance from The University of Akron, with an emphasis on ballet and modern dance. Before college, she grew up taking classes in tap, jazz, and acrobatics/gymnastics. She has taught dance and fitness classes to kids and adults, as well as worked at after school programs for children and teens. BALLET INTERMEDIATE w/ Corrinne Bailey This intermediate Ballet class will focus technique practice at the barre, in the center, and across the floor.  Students will work on increasing core strength, balance, flexibility, agility, and musicality within ballet vocabulary. This class is designed for students who have some knowledge of ballet, but students will have the freedom to increase difficulty or simplify as needed.  A great class for all dancers who would like to have a regular ballet practice. Recommended to wear: any dance/exercise/yoga clothes and ballet slippers or other dance shoes.

CORRINNE BAILEY graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA in Dance from Ohio University in 2017. Originally from Columbus, Bailey now resides in Cincinnati and is working as an independent artist. After graduation, Bailey danced for MamLuft&Co. Dance for two seasons, performing all over Cincinnati and touring the east coast. She is passionate about teaching dance as well as Pilates. Bailey has been teaching dance since 2012 in a studio setting and, most recently, in a public school setting. She teaches a variety of genres, including Modern, Ballet, Creative Movement, and Hip Hop. Bailey is also a certified Pilates instructor. She has completed the Pilates Comprehensive Certification and is now teaching at BodyMind Balance Pilates studio. Bailey continues to make her own work through Fellow Collective, a project-based dance group that she co-founded and premiered in November of 2018. Bailey was recently accepted into the 2019 OhioDance Festival, held in Columbus, OH, as well as the Area Choreographers Festival held in Cincinnati. She was also accepted into an artist festival in Cleveland, OH, hosted by dotdotdot. Bailey’s work is experimental, quirky, and collaborative—she enjoys working with others and bringing many perspectives into her creative process. 

HIP HOP w/ Steve Irwin — Steve’s Hip Hop classes are filled with creative choreography set to the latest Hip Hop/R&B music.  Learn a new choreographed routine each week, and practice routines from previous weeks.  Recommended for all levels of dancers (mixed level).  It is recommended that students wear dance/exercise type clothing and athletic shoes or dance sneakers, or go barefoot if you prefer.

STEVE IRWIN has been dancing and teaching professionally for over twenty-five years. He has performed all over the world on cruise ships, at dinner theaters, and at theme parks. Steve’s teaching credits include Northern Kentucky University, Governor’s School of the Arts, Playhouse in the Park, Cincinnati Ballet, Wyoming Center for the Arts, and CCM. Steve also offers private lessons and is available to choreograph for individuals, musicals, and events such as flash mobs and weddings.  See Steve’s Facebook page here.  He is pleased to be teaching at CDT.

MODERN DANCE Thursdays w/ Michelle Morano — (See also Modern Basics)— These classes aim to improve your flexibility, range of motion, technical knowledge, musicality, artistic range, and understanding of basic modern dance principles.  Michelle’s classes combine a variety of techniques, and Cunningham & Limon styles are often seen.  Included in her classes will be phrase work, across the floor, and creative choreography.  This class is recommended for intermediate & advanced students, as well as advanced beginners who can follow along.  Recommended to wear:  any dance/exercise/yoga clothes and bare feet, or if you prefer, soft dance shoes (such as jazz shoes) or socks.  See a video of a class sample combination here:  

MICHELLE MORANO graduated with honors from Ohio University School of Dance.  She is a certified Pilates and Yoga teacher and has her own studio in the Kenwood area where she works with private clients.  Along with extensive performance experience, Michelle’s choreography has been seen in Cincinnati’s Fringe Festival, Performance & Time Arts shows, and in collaborations with Moving Art Dance Company, and MamLuft&Co. Dance.

MODERN DANCE  – Tuesdays, mixed level (all levels welcome) w/ Donna Rubin.  Donna’s practice utilizes a hybrid of forms such as chi/energy cultivation, somatics, improvisational explorations, and modern contemporary technique work. Principles of falling, flying, inversion, floor and center work will encourage deep awareness and understanding of the body.  Release technique modern is used in this class; it is an energetic exploration of movement from the inside out, relating to motion from internal impulse to external expression.  

Students will explore volume and weight inside the body and its relationship to the floor, bringing awakening to the feet, spine, and pelvic floor, encouraging the feeling of release in the limbs, and articulate falling and suspending off-center. Donna will have students explore sensation, instinct, and the inherent musical phrasing inside the body.

This class will use imagery and metaphors to help dancers find new ways to cultivate movement, awareness, as well as release unconscious holding patterns. It elaborates on fundamental principles of dance, including suspension, alignment, economy and efficiency, sustainable breath and energy, spontaneity, suppleness, balance, grounding, and dynamic stillness.  Phrases will move in and out of the floor and carry dancers in and out of balance. Relationships will be explored with the dynamics of sound, space and each other.

DONNA RUBIN discovered her love of dance as a teenager when she started training in ballet, jazz and contemporary at Point Park College prep department in Pittsburgh, PA.  She continued dedicated studies while earning her BFA in theater perfomance at CCM where she continued to study classical ballet, Horton technique (with James Truitt) and musical theater styles. Toward the end of her undergrad studies she discovered The “Dance Hall” (Contemporary Dance Theater).  At the same time she was co-directing a multi disciplinary performance-art troupe called The ‘John Body Players’ and created choreography and direction for numerous productions in greater Cincinnati and later in SF.  While living in SF she immersed herself in the wealth of dance training and performance opportunities available there. Her primary focus: release technique, improvisation, contact improvisation and chi cultivation techniques and found her most influential  teachers Sara Shelton Mann and Kathleen Hermesdorf.  She continues to study, train, teach and create work as a multi disciplinary artist. Currently Donna is a songwriter/musician in Cincinnati indie rock band Fists of Love and a Hatha Yoga instructor who has been certified/teaching since 2004. Her community healing arts space, 3 Legged Dog Yoga Collective, is entering it’s 10th year. She is currently a company member and educational teaching artist for Pones Inc. and recently has helped develop a new movement class for Cincinnati Arts Association’s Arts in Healing program, where she works teaching healing movement to veterans.  Donna believes Dance to be a powerful tool of healing, community and liberation. 

MODERN BASICS 1 w/ Corrine Bailey is a basic technique class for beginners to Modern Dance or for new dance students.  Technique basics refers to learning and correctly practicing basic movements needed to build on and properly execute Modern Dance concepts, steps, and choreography as students progress through the levels over time.  Along with beginner technique exercises, students will progress each week of the session, to connect combinations of steps and also to learn a short choreography.  Students will get to try out at a slower pace many basic modern dance steps used in higher level classes, so that after taking this class, they will be oriented to many different dance classes, not just modern dance.  Work on the floor (including basic rolling and inversions), standing in the center, and across the floor exercises will be covered.  Please note that this class is progressive and builds each week, so it is recommended that students take the entire 10 week session, or at least come as much as possible during the first 5 weeks if dropping in.  Recommended to wear/bring:  a shirt with short or long sleeves (to cover shoulders) which is tight or can be tucked in, any dance/exercise/yoga pants which go at least to the knee, knee pads (optional) and bare feet, or if you prefer, soft dance shoes (such as jazz shoes) or socks.

MOVEMENT IMPROVISATION — This will be a monthly meet-up event for Winter Quarter, not a weekly class!  In this class, students will explore improvisation as a practice in discovering new movement patterns and as a means of non-verbal compromise between movers, time, space, and music. Dancers will be challenged to heighten their physical awareness, as well as their relationship to other moving bodies. Class will include improvisational techniques for performance, exploration, and creating choreography, with guided warm ups and culminating movement jams. MUSICAL THEATER DANCE w/ Steve Irwin — Learn choreographed routines set to the fun and catchy tunes from Broadway and movie musicals, featuring a wide variety of dance & choreography styles. Steve’s classes expand on jazz and ballet basics with dances that have character and personality. Definitely a fun class for everyone, and great practice and training for those who love to perform in local amateur or professional musicals.  Students will learn a new choreographed routine each week, and practice routines from previous weeks, and will also have a brief time of across the floor to work on turns, jumps and grand battement.  This class is recommended for advanced beginners and intermediate dancers from any dance background, but beginners are welcome also.  Recommended to wear:  any dance/exercise/yoga clothes and whatever you prefer for footwear – we recommend that you bring a pair of jazz shoes if you have them, but you can also use ballet slippers, dance sneakers, or bare feet.

TAP BASICS for Musical Theater w/ Alissa Stachowski is a tap technique class in musical theater style, with Level 1 for new beginners or anyone who wants to start from the very beginning, and Level 2 for advanced beginners who are already familiar with basics tap steps. Students will learn and practice basics tap steps, technique routines, and short choreographed routines in musical theater dance styles.  In short routines some basic musical theater dance steps will also be covered.  Tap shoes should be worn for this class and students can wear any comfortable clothing that they can move freely in.  Space is very limited in this class, so please be sure to register early if you would like to be guaranteed a spot.

YOGALATES w/ Michelle Morano is a conditioning class that is a fusion of yoga, Laban, Pilates and dance stretches all woven together with flowing vinyasa sequencing. This class incorporates every plane of motion, as it encourages freedom in the spine, while targeting dynamic strength building, improving joint and muscle flexibility, as well as improving balance and coordination.   

For both dancers and non-dancers, this unique class will keep you moving, strengthen your core, and give you a full body stretch and release, to increase your flexibility.  Please bring your own yoga or Pilates mat if you have one; CDT has some if you do not.

MICHELLE MORANO graduated with honors from Ohio University School of Dance.  She is a certified Pilates and Yoga teacher and has her own studio in the Kenwood area where she works with private clients.  Along with extensive performance experience, Michelle’s choreography has been seen in Cincinnati’s Fringe Festival, Performance & Time Arts shows, and in collaborations with Moving Art Dance Company, and MamLuft&Co. Dance.


Contemporary Dance Theater is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
