Contemporary Dance Theater, in College Hill, will be offering a one-week dance camp for children ages 3-10. Through technique classes, dance-related crafting activities, structured imaginative play, story time, and choreographic exploration, children will learn dance skills and vocabulary, develop literacy and understand narrative through dance, gain knowledge of anatomy, healthy self-image, and positive cultural awareness.

The camp will be led by CDT instructors Allison Jacobs, Glenda Figueiredo, Colleen Byrne, and Amanda Lopez-Kurtz, along with special guest instructors.

Drop off as early as 7:30am, pick up as late 6:00pm*!

*Extended Care before 9am and after 3pm is available for $8/$9 (before OR after) or $16/$18 (for both) per day per child

What is the camp’s focus?

The creative, empowering, expressive, and active art form of dance!

What are the outcomes of the camp?

Our campers will have learned new things about the art and fun of dance, have gained a sense of self-esteem and accomplishment, and will have learned healthy life habits in a safe environment.

What ages will the camp include?

Ages 3 to 10. Age groups will be separated into developmentally appropriate technique classes, and will have learning experiences within their smaller age groups (3-5, 5-7, 8-10) as well as with the camp as a whole.

What does the camp include?

Modern Dance Technique & Related Activities
Children will move fully and creatively while developing skills in balance, strength, flexibility, and musicality. Related activities will include reinforcement of technique in non-movement exercises. Modern dance is a genre of dance that is characterized by a full range of motion, freer use of the body, gestural and gross motor movement, and a strong relationship with the ground.

Choreography & Creative Movement
Children will express themselves and develop creative capacity while building individual agency, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Older students will learn the basics of dance-making and develop their own choreography.

Ballet Technique & Activities
Children will be taught the older tradition of classical ballet, a foundation for modern dance, developing skills in ballet vocabulary, balance, strength, flexibility, and posture. Narrative, mime, and storytelling will be taught alongside technique to bring this dance form to life!

Guest Artists
Guest artists will teach campers about movement forms from around the US and the world, including Egyptian dance, Indian Dance, dance history, sign language, and more!

Large group with special activities such as arts and crafts and outdoor play!

Children age 3-5 will enjoy daily story times presented by the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County.

Campers will be provided with two healthy snacks a day.  Caretakers should send lunch for their child(ren).

After and before care includes movie time, coloring, arts and crafts, and outdoor play.

All campers will get their own camp t-shirt.

Camp registration includes two daily snacks and a camp t-shirt*!
