Being offered Summer Quarter

  • Lyrical Kids (ages 8-12) – Mondays 5:30-6:15pm – cancelled for Session 3
  • Hip Hop for Kids (ages 7-12) – Mondays 6:15-7:00pm – cancelled for Session 3
  • Tap Dance for Kids (ages 5-12) – Mondays 6:15-7:00pm – cancelled for Session 3
  • Tumbling/Acrobatics for Dance (ages 7 & up) – Mondays 6:00-6:45pm – Session 2 only
  • Modern for Kids (ages 8-12) – Tuesdays 6:30-7:15pm – Session 2 only
  • Shake and Create (Ages 3-5) – Thursdays 6:00-6:40 pm – Sessions 1, 2, 3.  Note: no class on Aug 23; make-up class on Sept 6.
  • Introduction to Ballet & Modern (ages 5-8) – Thursdays 6:45-7:30pm – Sessions 1, 2, 3.  Note: no class on Aug 23; make-up class on Sept 6.
Summer – Three 4-week sessions
  • Summer Session 1:  June 4 – June 28
    Summer Session 2:  July 9 – Aug 2
    Summer Session 3:  Aug 6 – Aug 30
  • Registration deadline:  Thursday before each session begins – May 31, July 5, Aug 2.  Please register early – thank you!!
  • All kids classes require pre-registration (no drop-ins), and payment must accompany registration. Contact us if you miss the deadline, as a class may be cancelled if minimum registration is not met by the deadlines.  If we are accepting students after the deadline, there will be a $10 late fee added.
  • Make-up classes that CDT cancels (due to instructor illness, vacation, etc) will be the week after each session

  • Fall class schedule will be posted by Aug 6.  Fall session will be 10 weeks, Sept 10 – Nov 15.

Kids Dance Classes Summer 2018 Registration Information

When are registrations due?

Class registrations, along with payments, are due no later than the Thursday before each Session begins.  Please register early!

  • If minimum registrations are not met by the deadline, class will be cancelled.  Please register early!
  • If you miss a deadline, contact us as we may still be accepting students.  An additional late fee of $10 will apply
What does it cost?

$36 cash/check or $38 credit card for each 4-week class session.

NO REFUNDS for missed classes.
No pro-rated prices for beginning after first class of session.

Kids Dance Schedule


Lyrical for Kids with Candice Wortham, Mondays 5:30-6:15pm, Ages 8-12 (Studio A or C)
Sessions 1 & 3 ONLY

This class is a great introduction to the lyrical style of dance for both experienced and beginner dancers.  Lyrical is a style combining ballet and jazz technique, using motion to interpret music and express emotion. In this class your child will learn technique, combinations, and have the opportunity to express their own creativity. 

Hip Hop for Kids with Candice Wortham, Mondays 6:15-7:00pm, Ages 7-12 (Studio A or C)
Sessions 1 & 3 ONLY

This hip hop class is open to both beginners and experienced dancers ages 7-12. Students will learn the classics along with the latest moves in hip hop, through combinations & choreographed routines.  They will be encouraged to bring their own creativity to the room through games and activities. This is a class where they can let loose, be free, and let their inner star shine! 

Tap Dance for Kids with Janna Gerke, Mondays 6:15-7:00pm, Ages 5-12 (Studio B)
Sessions 1 & 3 ONLY

Beginners as well as experienced dancers will learn & practice the fundamentals of tap dancing.  If your child is interested in Musical Theater, this is a great class for them.  This class would be best suited for beginners with no experience, and kids who may have had a-little bit of tap experience in the past but need to work on and practice the basics steps.

Tumbling/Acrobatics for Dance with Alissa Stachowski, Mondays 6:00-6:45pm, Ages 7 & up (Studio A)
Session 2 ONLY

This mixed level class will focus on tumbling and acrobatics that can be used in dancing.  Students will start with fundamentals and progress at their own pace.  For ages 7 & up; teens and adults may also register.


Modern for Kids with Glenda Figueiredo, Tuesdays 6:30-7:15pm, Ages 8-12 (Studio A or C)
Session 2 ONLY

If your child is interested in learning Modern, Contemporary, or Jazz, this would be the place to start to learn the fundamentals. Basics of Modern dance will be covered including standing and floor warm-ups, across the floor, and center combinations.  All levels of experience in dance are welcome to join.


No classes offered for Summer quarter – check back in Fall quarter when more classes will be added.


Shake and Create with Allison Jacobs, Thursdays 6:00-6:40 pm, Ages 3-5 (Studio B or C)

In this class, your child will be introduced to creative movement and dance. Your child will have an opportunity to jump, shake, spin and wiggle, while using their imagination!  Fundamentals of dance will be explored with developmentally appropriate movement.

Introduction to Ballet & Modern with Allison Jacobs, Thursdays 6:45-7:30pm, Ages 5-8 (Studio B or C)

This class will introduce your child to the fundamentals of Ballet and Modern.
Emphasis will be on developing proper technique, improving strength /and flexibility, and increasing dance vocabulary.  Students will have an opportunity to utilize their imagination and creativity through various dance games and activities.  No previous experience is necessary.


Teachers’ Biographies

Shake and Create & Introduction to Ballet & Modern — ALLISON JACOBS has been dancing and teaching in greater Cincinnati and New York City for the past twenty years. Her dance training is primarily focused on Ballet and Modern. Allison is also well versed in Tap, Jazz, Hip-hop, Musical Theater, Swing, and Contact Improvisation. Her dance teaching experience has been at Tanze Performing Arts Studio, Hamilton Ballet Theater, Miami Valley Ballet Theater, Long Island University, Contemporary Dance Theater, Ballet Tech, and Fresh Air Fund. Most recently, Allison has taught dance for Contemporary Dance Theater, Cincinnati Waldorf School, Cincinnati Public Schools, MamLuft&Co. Dance, as well as for the University of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Public Libraries.  In addition to teaching dance, Allison is a graduate of Northern Kentucky University with a degree in Psychology and minors in dance, honors, sociology, and art history. and has a Master of Library Science degree from Kent State University.  Currently she works for the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County. Modern for Kids – GLENDA FIGUEIREDO began her training when she was three years old in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her dance background is Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Traditional Brazilian dances and Contemporary dance, the last being her true passion. She has been dancing and teaching professionally for over 12 years. She has performed throughout Brazil, as well as in Argentina and Chile with a dance company from Rio de Janeiro.  She has been part of countless dance events (television shows and dance competitions) in Brazil with brilliant outcomes. In the US, Glenda was a dancer for Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey circus for 5 years, where she also had her aerial training and performed over 400 shows a year. After spending  time on the road, she went back to Brazil and got a degree in Education (Portuguese and English), but she was never far from dance. Together with her love and dedication for performing she has also managed to keep up a passion for teaching. Her goal as an instructor is to give her best to the students and bring out the best of them. Always intense, during her classes she looks for extra sources of creativity and energy. She is a kind woman and passionate artist ready to dance and live life to the fullest.

Hip Hop for Kids & Lyrical for Kids – CANDICE WORTHAM is a mother of two and a Licensed practical nurse. Her passion is dance, where she gets to share her skills and knowledge with children and adults that share that same passion. She has been trained in the areas of ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, modern, lyrical, tumbling, and cheerleading. She has over 10 years of experience in teaching all ages of kids and adults with various studios and organizations.  She also has training in creative movement and mommy & me. Candice is a Licensed Zumba fitness instructor with a specialty license in Zumba Kids and Zumba Kids, Jr.

Tap Dance for Kids – JANNA GERKE began her teaching career 20 years ago choreographing community theatre musicals and assisting with dance instruction at The Diana Lynn School of Dance. Since then, she has gone on to receive her bachelor’s degree in Acting and Directing with a Support Field in Dance from BGSU. Janna has performed with the traveling children’s theatre ensemble, The Treehouse Troupe, directed and choreographed the plays and musicals at Eastwood High School, founded the Musical Theatre program at numerous dance studios, led the competitive tap team at Encore Dance Co., and she has taught at several studios and performing arts schools throughout Ohio. Janna’s favorite styles are tap and musical theatre, and she has been featured in Toledo’s Examiner for the success of her Musical Theatre Program at Inspire Dance Co. Janna is passionate about improving the lives of young people through the art of dance and drama. She aspires to challenge her students, build their confidence, and instill lessons that they can carry with them beyond the dance studio. Janna also teaches the Tap Basics 1 & 2 class for ages 13-adult.

Tumbling/Acrobatics for Dance – ALISSA STACHOWSKI grew up taking classes in acrobatics & gymnastics, as well as dance and baton twirling.  She has a BA degree in Dance from The University of Akron, and has taught dance, tumbling, and fitness classes to kids and adults.  Her classes focus on proper form, strength and flexibility, and progressing at an individual pace.  She and her daughter currently participate in family circus classes at My Nose Turns Red Youth Circus, where they practice partnering acrobatics as well as other circus arts.  Alissa also teaches the Modern Basics classes for ages 13-adult, as well as the Tap Basics 1 class for ages 13-adult (& ages 9-12 with permission).  Contact her at alissa@cdt-dance.org.
